It is no secret that Global Aviation President Flo Newton has a real soft spot in her heart for animals.  You should have been here last month when Wings of Rescue came through.  There were over 140 critters running around here.  I was a little nervous about my food bowl!  But I digress…

Next month, we’re supporting Dove Lewis, Portland’s 24-hour non-profit animal hospital.  It was founded in 1973 by A.B. Lewis in honor of his late wife Dove.  Before Dove passed, she and A.B. breed dogs, ran a successful kennel and dog grooming operation and showed Standard Poodles.  What’s there not to like about a woman with an affinity for guys like me?  Clearly she had great taste!  At any rate, Dove had a special way with animals and people across the country used to fly their dogs into Portland just so that she could treat them.  Needless to say, the Dove Lewis Clinic carries on her legacy.

On Sunday, June 9th, the annual Run for the Love of Dove 5K run/walk will once again take place in the neighborhoods of NW Portland.  If you’re into people and canine watching this will be the place to be!  Plus, there will be post–race festivities with food, drink, silly pet tricks and…food…  Did I mention food?  The race starts at 9 a.m. which is pretty doggone early for me, but it is for a good cause.  All monies raised will go to support the Stray Animal & Wildlife Fund.  If you can’t make it, but want to support the cause, donate at  See you at the finish line.
