HIO, home to Global Aviation, opens new parallel runway

Hillsboro Airport, home to Global Aviation, cut the ribbon on a new parallel runway late this spring. The new runway is fully operational and a welcome addition to Oregon’s “busiest general aviation airport.”

Once just a grass field runway in 1920’s rural Hillsboro, HIO now has a high caliber, three-runway system servicing more than 25 aviation-related businesses.

The new runway will allow for smooth operations by separating business-class jets from smaller planes such as those operated by flight-training students. The third perpendicular runway will be used to accommodate different wind patterns as needed.

“The Port’s attention to current and future aviation needs is an important asset as our services grow at Global Aviation,” said Flo Newton, Global Aviation President. “We appreciate the ongoing improvements and support for businesses based at the Hillsboro Airport.”

The Hillsboro Airport provides more than 1,200 jobs for the community. As a general aviation airport, Hillsboro Airport is home to Global Aviation’s aircraft charter services, maintenance, and FBO operations.
